Someone at playgroup has a walker. So how late can walking be and still be normal? This episode gives real numbers. Babies who get around by bum shuffling, scooting along on their bottom, often walk later than average, sometimes closer to fifteen to eighteen months rather than around the first birthday, and that is still inside the normal range. The children who have been followed up generally turned out to move perfectly well. Because there is no single right way to become mobile. Bum shuffling in particular worries a lot of parents and really does not need to. What matters is that your baby is progressing and is starting to take weight through their legs. The second half of the episode is for parents whose baby arrived early. Corrected age is a fairer ruler: take your baby's age since birth and subtract how many weeks or months early they arrived. A six month old who came three months early has a corrected age of three months, and three months is the development you would gently expect. The calm when to check list: not attempting to pull up to stand or take weight through the legs in any way by around the first birthday; not cruising furniture or attempting to step by eighteen months; only ever using one side of the body; or losing a skill they used to have. None of those mean something is wrong. They mean it is worth a look. **Topics covered:** when do babies walk, late walking, bum shuffling, bottom shuffling, commando crawl, baby not crawling, skipping crawling, premature baby development, corrected age, adjusted age, paediatric physiotherapy, gross motor milestones, Campbelltown, Macarthur, NSW. ## Read more from Aderet Therapy - [Is bum shuffling bad?](https://aderettherapy.com.au/resources/bum-shuffling-bad/) - [When should I be concerned about my baby developing properly?](https://aderettherapy.com.au/resources/baby-developing-properly/) ## Sources behind this episode Raising Children Network. healthdirect and Pregnancy, Birth and Baby.
